 What is 1001fonts.com?
On the first look, 1001fonts.com is just another website for downloading tons of free TrueType and PostScript fonts for both MS Windows and Apple Macintosh, but that is not the whole deal. All of the fonts on this site were contributed by a large pool of font authors, who have spent many hours (days, or even months) of hard work creating them, so that you can download them for free. For them, this website offers numerous font activity statistics and feedback opportunities, so that 1001fonts.com becomes more a community platform, where font authors and users can interact with each other.

 Finding the right fonts
If you don't know what you are looking for and would like to be inspired a bit, take a look at the most popular fonts that everybody else is downloading, or browse through the top rated fonts to find the best of the best.

If you have a slight idea of what you might be looking for, you should browse through our font categories, where you will find theme and style related fonts grouped together. All of the font categories can be accessed within the black navigation bar on the right hand side of every page.

If you are looking for a specific font, you should search our database using the Font Search, also located in the black navigation bar near the top. Go ahead and try it out. Your query will be looked up in the name and description of all fonts, the name of the author and also in all font reviews, so the chances are pretty good that you will find something appropriate.

 Downloading fonts
Once you have found a font that you would like to download, simply click on the appropriate download link in regards to your desired font type and operating system. Downloads are differentiated for Windows and Macintosh users and between TrueType and PostScript fonts. If you don't know which operating system you are using, ask the person who let you use their computer ;) If you don't know the difference between TrueType and PostScript, you should go with downloading TrueType fonts. If you really want to know the difference, read our FAQ on the difference between TrueType and PostScript fonts.

Although all fonts can be downloaded for free on this website, certain usage restrictions may apply in respect to the different font licenses. Please make sure you comply with a font's license when using it.

 Installing fonts on your computer
I have detected that you are running MS Windows, so here are instructions for installing fonts on a Windows PC. Just in case you need instructions for Macintosh, click here.
Step 1 (Decompressing Downloaded Files)

All of the fonts found on 1001fonts.com are packaged in ZIP archives (*.zip), which may include author and copyright information next to the actual font file. Before installing a font, you must decompress the ZIP archive somewhere to your hard drive using a tool like WinZip. Best is to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder (C:\Temp).

Step 2 (Actual Installation)

These instructions assume that you are running Windows 95/98/2000 or NT4.

1.Open the Windows Control Panel
(» START » SETTINGS » CONTROL PANEL)
2.Double click on the "Fonts" icon in the Control Panel
(a new window should open and you should see all the installed fonts on your system)
3.Click on the "File" menu and select "Install New Fonts"
(a new window "Add Fonts" should pop  up)
4.Locate the folder on your hard drive containing the extracted fonts from step 1
5.Double Click on the font file you wish to install and click on the "OK"  button

Your font should now be installed and available to all applications using fonts, such as MS Word or PhotoShop.
