About
‘Bumpy’ is a ‘fun’ headline font created from my ‘Twist of Gold’ font in FontLab 8 and Affinity Designer 2. Despite it's absurdly contorted and misshapen form I could see that it had potential and experimented with it further. I am glad that I did because I think it is a very childlike and playful font.
There are currently 7 members of the ‘Bumpy’ family (OTF):
Bumpy Regular
Bumpy Bold
Bumpy Italic
Bumpy Outline 01
Bumpy Outline 02
Bumpy Outline 03 Double
Bumpy Bonkers
'Bumpy' was a bit of an accident, really. It originated from my 'Twist of Gold' bitmap colour font. I used Affinity Photo to create 'Twist of Gold' from one of my FREE gold brushes for Affinity Photo, drawing each glyph (some, many times because the twisting gold brush was so erratic, I never knew quite what I was going to get! Ha-ha!). Unfortunately, I didn't know at that time that Affinity Designer 2.0 didn't recognise bitmap clour fonts...
So I created 'Twist of Black' (vector)... by exporting 'Twist of Gold' from FontLab. On export, FontLab converts (brilliantly!) a version of the font in vector, which I then used as 'Twist of Black'.
I was in Affinity Designer 2 and had typed a few letters in my 'Twist of Black' font and was playing around with Layer Effects. Outline and Colour Overlay...
I had pumped up the value of the outline to cover all the 'holes' in the a glyph of 'Twist of Gold' font (above), then I copied it into FontLab and applied 'Rounding'...
And 'Bumpy' was born.
I guess he's a kind of Frankenstein's monster, really.
There are several more ‘Bumpy’ family members to follow.
I am currently working on:
Bumpy Wonky
and a COLRv1 version of this font. The name… shall remain a secret.
Hope you like ‘Bumpy’…
