This font is not very pleasing to the eye, therefore making it hard to distinguish between the variuous characters.

I agree with you as long as you use it in black and white. But if you play with it in Photoshop or similar programs, you can get nice effects. For example www.anke-art.de/howcould.gif

it looks pretty cool, and so what if it's harder to read, it just means you have to go more out of your way to read it, so you're putting more into it, and actually thinking about what it says, instead of just glancing at a font and going "oh yeah, it's pretty good"
